19/9/12 – Illustration of an Apple Skull
Illustration by Charlotte Pridding – Logo by Apple Incorporated (I don’t own any rights over the logo)
The other day I decided to clean my room and I found an old sketch book in the back of my closet. I decided to have a look through and I found an illustration that I never finished. Towards the very beginning of the year, I had combined the apple symbol with the image of the skull on a blank sheet of paper in one of my journals. I had completely forgotten about my illustration until I decided to search my closet for my old visual diaries. I have kept all of my visual sketch books from high school and university that I look through for other ideas and concepts.
I decided to complete the illustration that I had found and I have also tried to replicate certain patterns and designs that are associated with the Mexican skulls or the Day of the Dead celebration. I remember that I had an interest for the skull at the start of the year and I kept wondering what would happen if I used the apple symbol for the shape of the skull.
For some stupid reason, I had decided to walk around with a folio in the rain and the paper did warp around the edges. I was a little disappointed to begin with but the different lines in the paper actually add a very interesting effect to the image.
Illustration is not my area of expertise, although I am pleased with the results. When I have some spare time in the next couple of months, I would like to use a similar design in Adobe Illustrator in order to create a vector image. I have combined two of my favourite icons into one single image!
